Jute Mills in Crisis: Owners Seek Govt Aid Amid Raw Material Shortage and Rising Prices
Amidst a severe shortage of raw materials and rising prices, jute mill owners and workers have requested assistance from the new central government to help run the mills smoothly, prevent them from shutting down (from Monday), and protect the jobs of thousands of employees.
According to a statement released by the Indian Jute Mills Association (IJMA), at least 14 mills in West Bengal have already suspended operations due to the raw material shortage, facing severe problems.
According to IJMA, the price of this raw material has stabilized at ₹6,100 per quintal, and for the remaining jute mills to operate smoothly, it is said to be essential to keep the production of raw materials uninterrupted.
In this situation, the IJMA is optimistic that the new government will strengthen the industry by releasing funds, granting emergency import permissions, and taking proper measures to fix a reasonable price limit for the mills.
