Kolkata is unlikely to catch a complete break from sticky pre-monsoon weather over the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting sky-high humidity and isolated thundershowers every day until June 6. While daily afternoon and evening showers will keep local atmospheric conditions unsettled, they will not be widespread or sustained enough to deliver any long-term thermal relief. Instead, regional meteorologists project a gradual 2°C to 4°C spike in daytime temperatures over the first half of the week, forcing the city’s maximum mercury to peak near 38°C by Wednesday, June 3, where it will likely hold steady alongside warm, uncomfortable nights averaging 28°C.

Despite the recurring discomfort of high humidity, the IMD has not issued any major heavy weather alerts for the metropolitan area. For the broader region, a classic split-weather pattern will dominate the week: while south Bengal districts mirror Kolkata’s cycle of scattered light showers and oppressive afternoon heat, north Bengal is bracing for a much wetter spell, with widespread rainfall and the risk of heavy downpours building across the Himalayan foothills and adjoining districts toward the latter half of the forecast period.
