North Korea Wins AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup Title for Record 5th Time, Thumps Japan 5-1
Overturning the challenge of a strong Japan, North Korea has won the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup title for a record-breaking fifth time. In a completely one-sided final held in Suzhou city, North Korea defeated Japan by a margin of 5-1. With four goals including a hat-trick, Jon Il-chong (Note: transliterated phonetically in the text as Yu Jong Hang) was the heroine of the victory. The other goal belonged to Kim Bon Sim. With as many as 15 goals in the tournament, Jon Il-chong created a new record. North Korea, which took a 1-0 lead in the first half, added four more goals after the interval. Japan’s solitary goal was scored by Hayashi. Along with China and Australia, who entered the semi-finals of this tournament, North Korea and Japan will represent Asia in the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup.
