TMC Councillor Sanjay Das Found Dead in Kolkata Police Suspect Suicide
Sanjay Das, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillor representing Ward 108 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his residence in Anandapur, south-east Kolkata. The discovery was made by family members after Das failed to respond to repeated knocks on his bedroom door, prompting them to alert local authorities. Upon arriving at the scene, Kolkata Police officers recovered the body and a purported suicide note, which has since been sent to forensic experts for handwriting verification.
Initial police investigations strongly point toward suicide, with preliminary reports suggesting that severe financial distress and intense personal stress may have driven the councillor to take the extreme step. Das, a well-known local politician who secured his KMC seat in the December 2021 civic body polls, was widely recognized for his active involvement in community development across the Anandapur and EM Bypass areas. Senior TMC leadership and fellow KMC colleagues expressed deep shock and mourning over his sudden demise, while the Kolkata Police have registered an unnatural death case and initiated a comprehensive investigation to rule out any foul play.
