Putting an end to the anticipation, tournament favorites Spain have announced their final squad for the upcoming World Cup. The sole surprise in the 26-member squad announced by coach Luis de la Fuente is the complete absence of any players from Real Madrid.
Even though they have not yet fully recovered, the coach has naturally included three key stars—Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, and Mikel Merino—in the squad. The coach is confident that all three stars will regain fitness before their first match, which is scheduled for June 15. Due to a broken bone in his foot, the coach had to finalize the squad without Barcelona’s young star Fermín López. Before kicking off their World Cup campaign, Spain will play two friendly matches—against Iran on June 4 and against Peru on June 8.
