Abhishek Banerjee Slams BJP Manifesto, Questions Status of Sheikh Hasina’s Stay in India
Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the BJP following the release of its election manifesto, dismissing it as a collection of “empty promises.” Speaking at a rally, Banerjee questioned the BJP’s “Modi ki Guarantee” narrative, pointing to unfulfilled previous commitments regarding job creation and the curbing of inflation. He challenged the party to provide a concrete account of its work in West Bengal over the last decade instead of offering new slogans, labeling the manifesto as a “distraction” from the ground realities of rising costs and central fund withholding.
Adding a sharp diplomatic and political dimension to his critique, Banerjee also raised questions regarding the central government’s stance on former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He asked for clarity on her current status and the nature of the “asylum” or stay granted to her in India, suggesting a lack of transparency in the government’s handling of sensitive neighborhood relations. By linking the BJP’s national manifesto to regional and diplomatic concerns, Banerjee sought to frame the ruling party at the Centre as being “out of touch” with both local struggles and clear foreign policy, while reaffirming the Trinamool Congress’s position as the primary challenger in the state.
