Marvel Artist Roge Antonio Makes India Debut at Kolkata Comic Con Discovers the Great
Acclaimed Marvel artist Roge Antonio, known for his work on X-Men and Venom, made his first-ever Indian appearance at the Kolkata Comic Con this past weekend. During the event, the Brazilian illustrator engaged with fans, participated in live sketching sessions, and shared insights into his creative process within the Marvel Universe. Antônio expressed his amazement at the vibrant local pop-culture scene, noting that the energy and passion of the Kolkata audience rivaled major comic conventions in the US and Europe.
A highlight of his visit was his introduction to Bengal’s legendary comic character, Bantul the Great. After being shown the works of the late Narayan Debnath, Antonio was reportedly fascinated by the character’s design and timeless appeal. “It’s incredible to discover such a rich local history of superheroes,” he remarked, even creating a quick crossover sketch of the dhoti-clad powerhouse alongside Marvel’s Hulk. For local enthusiasts, Antônio’s appreciation for indigenous icons served as a bridge between global mainstream comics and the heritage of Bengali graphic storytelling.
