In a fresh financial disclosure filed alongside her nomination for the Bhabanipur assembly seat, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has once again emerged as one of India’s least wealthy top politicians. According to her latest affidavit, the Trinamool Congress supremo declared a total asset value of just ₹15.38 lakh, a figure that remains remarkably low for a long-serving head of state. Her liquid assets include a modest ₹76,105 in cash-in-hand and approximately 9.8 grams of gold jewelry, valued at current market rates.

The affidavit further confirms that Banerjee does not own any immovable property, including land or a residential building, nor does she own a personal vehicle. Her primary sources of income remain royalty from her numerous books and a small amount of bank interest, as she has famously refused to draw a salary or pension as Chief Minister or as a former Member of Parliament for several years. This disclosure has become a focal point of her campaign narrative, reinforcing her “street-fighter” image and her claim of leading a life of austerity while serving the people of Bengal.
