Global Alert: Influenza D Virus, Found in Cattle and Pigs, Warned as Potential Pandemic Threat

A global alert has been issued regarding the “Influenza D” virus. Experts have warned that this virus could potentially take the form of a pandemic in the future.
Influenza D is one of the four types of influenza viruses and belongs to the Orthomyxoviridae family. Unlike the common Influenza A and B viruses that typically cause seasonal flu in humans, Influenza D has primarily been found in animals, especially cattle and pigs.
This virus was first identified in 2011. Since then, it has been detected in various species, including livestock and wildlife. Experts have issued a warning because the virus has the potential to be transmitted from the bodies of animals to humans. It belongs to the Orthomyxoviridae family (the same family as the common flu). Primary Hosts Cattle and pigs are the main carriers.
