Kolkata is bracing for a continued spell of stormy weather, with intermittent thunderstorms, rain, and gusty winds expected to bring much-needed relief from humid summer conditions. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore, the city is anticipated to remain under generally cloudy skies with maximum temperatures holding steady between 33°C and 35°C. Meanwhile, nighttime minimum temperatures are projected to settle between 26°C and 28°C. This shift follows recent localized weather developments in the region, where neighboring Salt Lake recorded 44.7 mm of rainfall within a 24-hour window, marking the highest volume documented across South Bengal during that tracking interval.

While Kolkata prepares for regular evening showers and light to moderate precipitation, a significantly more severe alert has been issued for surrounding areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded an orange alert for several South Bengal districts, including West Burdwan, Birbhum, East Burdwan, and Bankura. These specific regions are expected to endure intense thunderstorm activity accompanied by heavy downpours and squally winds peaking at speeds of 50 to 60 kmph. Local meteorologists have warned that the very same convective weather systems impacting these districts could spill over into the metropolitan area and its immediate fringes later in the day, potentially triggering sudden, sharp micro-storms.
