Kolkata Braces for Humid Week as Mercury Hovers Around 36°C with Evening Thunderstorm Chances
Kolkata is set to experience a warm and highly humid first week of June, according to the latest midday forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather office indicates that the city will see partly cloudy skies, with moisture-laden winds and rising daytime temperatures likely triggering localized thundery developments during the afternoon and evening hours on most days. Temperatures are expected to remain close to seasonal norms, fluctuating within a narrow range throughout the week. Daily highs will hover consistently around 35°C to 36°C, while nighttime minimums will settle at a warm 29°C, offering little relief from the muggy conditions.
While widespread, heavy rainfall is not anticipated across the metropolitan area, brief spells of localized showers accompanied by lightning and gusty winds cannot be ruled out. This weather pattern is expected to persist through the weekend and into early next week, with conditions remaining largely unchanged through June 8. In contrast to the largely dry and humid conditions keeping south Bengal sticky, parts of north Bengal have recently experienced moderate rainfall, with Jhalong in Kalimpong district recording the state’s highest localized downpour at 33.7 mm.
