TMC Alleges Postal Ballot Tampering in Kolkata Files Formal Complaint with Election Commission
The Trinamool Congress has officially approached the Election Commission (EC) to allege the tampering of postal ballots at a storage location in Kolkata. According to the complaint, party representatives noticed irregularities concerning the security and handling of these ballots, which are currently housed alongside Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in high-security strong rooms. The TMC has demanded an immediate investigation and stricter oversight to ensure the integrity of the voting process as the state moves toward the final counting phase.
This allegation emerges during a period of intense vigilance, with political parties already maintaining 24/7 watches over strong rooms across West Bengal. The Election Commission has previously emphasized that a multi-tier security system, including CCTV surveillance and central paramilitary forces, is in place to prevent any unauthorized access. However, this formal grievance from the ruling party adds to the post-poll tension, highlighting the high stakes and mutual distrust between competing factions as they await the official results.
