Ahead of the grand autumn festivities, Kolkata has undergone a vibrant visual transformation, with roads, intersections, flyovers, and bridges adorned in brilliant hues of red, pink, yellow, and orange under the newly established BJP government in West Bengal. Transforming ordinary black-tarred thoroughfares into colourful slices of a rainbow and converting busy urban junctions into intricate floral motifs, the state administration has launched an extensive city-wide beautification drive to mark its first Durga Puja celebrations in power. Cabinet Minister Agnimitra Paul, who oversees the Urban Development and Municipal Affairs departments, personally led by example on Sunday by creating traditional alpona floor art at the bustling Park Circus Crossing. Describing the artistic initiative as a symbol of love, brotherhood, and the deep trust placed in the administration by the electorate following a decisive mandate, Paul highlighted that similar decorative projects have been rapidly executed across prominent locations, including the Gariahat bridge, the Garia More junction, and Red Road, alongside special beautification efforts along the sacred ghats of the Hooghly River. While noting that additional prominent city landmarks such as the Rashbehari and Park Street crossings may also be decorated if time permits, the government’s festive makeover aims to blend cultural tradition with modern urban renewal, creating a joyous and welcoming atmosphere for residents and visitors alike. As the video above illustrates, these colorful street paintings and cultural displays have captured widespread public attention, reflecting the administration’s enthusiastic push to elevate the city’s aesthetic appeal while fostering a spirit of community celebration during West Bengal’s most cherished annual festival.
