In the 39th match of the IPL, RCB handed a crushing 9-wicket defeat to Delhi Capitals. The match was played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where RCB won the toss and elected to bowl first—a decision that proved entirely correct.
Delhi Capitals’ batting faltered right from the start. The opening pair of KL Rahul and debutant Sahil Parakh could not steady the team. Bhuvneshwar Kumar clean-bowled Sahil on the second ball of the match, after which Josh Hazlewood sent KL Rahul and Sameer Rizvi back to the pavilion in the next over. Bhuvneshwar then broke the back of Delhi’s lineup by dismissing Stubbs and Axar Patel. With 5 wickets down for just 7 runs in 2.4 overs, the team was under total pressure.
Nitish Rana also didn’t last long and was out in the fourth over. After losing 6 wickets for 8 runs, David Miller and Abhishek Porel tried to steady the innings, but this partnership didn’t last long either. Miller was out after scoring 16 runs, and subsequently, the entire team was bundled out for 75 in the 17th over. For RCB, Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 3 wickets for 5 runs in 3 overs, while Josh Hazlewood took 4 wickets for 12 runs in 3.3 overs.
Chasing a simple target of 76, RCB started fast. Virat Kohli and Jacob Bethell opened the innings. Bethell was out after scoring 20 runs, but after that, Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal took full control. Both batsmen played aggressively and reached the target in just 7 overs. Kohli remained unbeaten on 23 runs off 15 balls, while Padikkal smashed 34* off 13 balls. With this win, RCB has strengthened its position in the points table, moving to second place with 12 points from 8 matches. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals has slipped to seventh place with only 3 wins from 8 matches.
