Kolkata is bracing for a grueling day as a severe heatwave continues to sweep through the city, with temperatures expected to hover significantly above the seasonal average. According to the latest forecast for April 3, 2026, the maximum temperature is projected to touch 41°C, while the high humidity levels will likely push the “real feel” index even higher. Weather officials have advised residents to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities during the peak afternoon hours, as the dry heat from the northwestern plains dominates the local climate.

On the air quality front, the city’s AQI remains in the ‘Moderate’ category, though certain industrial pockets and high-traffic intersections are showing spikes in particulate matter. While the morning skies remained clear, the regional meteorological centre has indicated a slight possibility of localised thundershowers or “Kalbaishakhi” (Nor’wester) winds late in the evening. If these rains manifest, they could provide a much-needed, albeit temporary, reprieve from the scorching daytime temperatures and help settle the suspended dust particles across the metropolitan area.
