The ongoing war of words between the West Bengal Raj Bhavan and Nabanna has reached a new low, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launching a stinging “Laat Saheb” Lordly jibe at Governor C.V. Ananda Bose. The confrontation was sparked by the Governor’s recent public remarks calling for a “change” in the state’s administrative and political culture, which the ruling Trinamool Congress interpreted as an overstepping of constitutional boundaries and a direct interference in the electoral process.

Addressing a gathering in Kolkata, the Chief Minister accused the Governor of acting like a “colonial-era Laat Saheb” rather than a neutral constitutional head. She argued that a nominated official should not dictate terms to an elected government or use the Raj Bhavan to further a specific political narrative. This latest “salvo” underscores the deep-seated friction that has characterized the relationship between the two offices, with the CM asserting that the people of Bengal—and not the Governor—will decide the direction of the state. As the political temperature rises, this public spat has added another layer of intensity to the final stages of the local campaign.
