FIFA has announced a new decision ahead of the upcoming World Cup. For the first time, separate opening ceremonies will be held in each of the three host countries: Mexico, Canada, and the United States. For this largest-ever World Cup in history, the competition will begin in Mexico City, featuring 48 teams.
FIFA stated that the opening ceremony in Mexico City will feature a performance by the popular Grammy-winning Mexican pop band Maná. Mexican singers Alejandro Fernández and Belinda will also perform. FIFA added that this ceremony will highlight the rich culture and heritage of Mexico. Meanwhile, Bosnia and Herzegovina will play against Canada in the first match of the Toronto group. Canadian stars Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara, and William Prince will perform at this event. FIFA announced that at the Toronto event—a symbol of Canada’s diversity and communal harmony—the World Cup trophy will be presented in a new “mosaic” design. On the same day, the United States will play against Paraguay in Los Angeles. The main attraction of the opening ceremony before that match will be American singer Katy Perry. Popular rapper Future will also perform. Regarding the U.S. event, FIFA mentioned that arrangements have been made to highlight the scope, objectives, and cultural impact of the World cup.
